Two Doses of Pfizer’s Coronavirus Vaccine are enough to give Nearly Full Protection

According to findings in the ongoing clinical trials of the vaccine, two doses of Pfizer’s Coronavirus vaccine are enough to give nearly full protection.

The findings were contained in documents that analyzed the effectiveness of the vaccine by Pfizer and the Federal regulator. Dr. Greg Poland, Director of the Rochester, Minnesota, said with the effectiveness of the vaccine, the FDA must grant it.

On Thursday, there was a meeting by vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory, VRBPAC, on the safety and effectiveness of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine. The recommendation of VRBPAC would serve as the decision of the FDA on the use of the vaccine.

In November, earlier results from Pfizer Phase 3 clinical trials showed that two does of the vaccine were 95% effective in preventing symptomatic coronavirus. The results have it that a dose would give 50% protection assurance.

However, Poland suggested that it would be better to have the two doses for immune enhancement against the virus.

“The concern is that after a single dose, people would think I’m home free. That would be the wrong message,” he said.

Positively, the overriding effectiveness of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine seems to cut across all age groups and races. Also, the vaccine would work well with people with special conditions like obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure.

There is no sign that the vaccine portends any health deficiency or side effect. However, experts are suggesting the study of the effectiveness of the vaccine in children, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.
